Welcome!

Hi, I’m Katie Sheasby, founder of Play to Read With Katie. I’m passionate about making learning fun, hands-on, and tailored to each child. My goal is to help children develop strong reading and writing skills while building confidence and a love of learning.

My Approach

I use a play-based, research-backed approach to reading, aligned with the science of reading, for all my reading support sessions.

For writing and grammar, I follow the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) curriculum, which helps students build structured, confident writing skills. I can provide additional grammar support for a small materials fee to cover the workbook needed for your child’s level.

Fun Fact About Me

I grew up in Southern California and just recently made the move to Northwest Georgia. I’ve always loved reading and working with kids — my passion for teaching grew even more when I homeschooled my cousin about 10 years ago and discovered the IEW method, which I now use in my writing support sessions.

Currently, I’m homeschooling my 4-year-old grandson, which keeps life lively and fun! When I’m not teaching, I love cooking and baking, and I’m especially enthusiastic about all things Christmas.
